In partnership with Matthew Dear and Microsoft we created DELQA, a dynamic and immersive installation that had its premiere at the New Museum’s gallery space in NYC.

DELQA is at once a composition, performance, and a collaboration between artist and audience: A ten minute piece of music, manipulated by its audience in real time.

We assembled a multidisciplinary team of interactive developers, animators, sound designers, architects, and musicians to bring it to life.

The installation employed an integrated system of lights, 44 speakers, and purpose-built Kinect technology. Participants manipulated their surroundings as they explored the dynamics of Matthew Dear’s music.

Both the visuals and the music responded intuitively to the movements and interactions of the audience, transforming the idea of what a performance, and indeed a musician, might be.
